The Dental Hygienist

The Dental Hygienist is an extremely important member of Dr Fleming's dental team. The role of the Hygienist is primarily concerned with the detection, treatment and prevention of dental disease, in particular periodontal (gum) disease. Periodontal disease is rapidly becoming one of the most common causes of tooth loss in the western world and has recently been linked to other diseases such as coronary heart disease. Early detection of gum disease is also essential to prevent potential tooth loss and the breakdown of existing dental work. For these reasons a thorough periodontal screening is carried out at each dental hygiene visit.

During your hygiene visit, Annie will evaluate the health of your gums and discuss with you the preventative measures that may be taken in order to firstly achieve and then maintain good dental and periodontal health. She will then clean and polish your teeth and apply solutions to prevent decay and show you the oral hygiene techniques required on a daily basis to maintain your teeth in a healthy and disease-free state. X rays may also be taken for diagnostic purposes.

Regular visits with our Hygienists will be recommended to maintain good oral and periodontal health. The frequency of these appointments will depend on your individual circumstances and specific periodontal and dental needs.

Annie grew up in Perth , Western Australia and studied Dental Hygiene at Curtin University gaining an Associate Degree in Dental Hygiene in 1996. Since then Annie has gained extensive dental hygiene experience in both Australia and England and is particularly skilled in the hygiene maintenance of dental implants and implant supported prostheses. During her time in London , Annie worked in a dental implant practice and played a pivotal role in the work-up, treatment and maintenance of all the dental implant patients.

When not performing her Dental Hygiene role at Dr Hugh Fleming and Associates Annie is a keen chef who cooks up many an exquisite dish in the kitchen.
